I’m going through this process right now – I currently work 50/50 as an employed technical author and a freelance copywriter and really would like to go 100% freelance. But I know it is fear of not getting enough money and projects that is holding me back. I’ve always thought I’d need to be pushed rather than jump myself, but maybe things aren’t going to turn out that way…might be time for a leap of faith.

Last year became my “just jump” year. As my way of conquering my fear, I decided to jump out of a plane. The actual exhilaration from jumping was amazing, but I used the mantra of “just jump” in so many other parts of my life. The biggest “jump jump” moment was when I quit a job that was making me miserable to become a freelance copywriter. Best move I’ve made in a long time!

To anyone else who is being held back by fear, I say, “jump jump!” You’ll be glad that you did!
